After a stroke, people may need help with movement, balance, walking, upper-limb tasks and daily activities. Rehabilitation is individual and may require a multidisciplinary team.

General educational information, not a diagnosis. Clinical review has not been recorded.

What happens during an assessment?

Assessment considers medical clearance, mobility, balance, strength, fatigue, communication or cognitive needs and goals meaningful to the patient.

What might a care plan include?

Supervised task practice, gait or balance exercises and safe functional training may be part of a coordinated rehabilitation plan.

Questions patients ask

Is stroke rehabilitation right for me?

There is no one treatment plan that suits everyone. The first step is to review the symptoms, medical history and functional goals, then decide whether physiotherapy, additional medical assessment or a different service is appropriate.

What should I bring to an assessment?

Please bring relevant reports or imaging if you already have them, a current medication list when relevant and a brief description of what daily activities have become difficult. You do not need to obtain scans solely to book a first enquiry.

Safety and next steps

New facial droop, speech difficulty or sudden arm/leg weakness can indicate another stroke: seek emergency medical care immediately.
