Lower-back discomfort can make it difficult to bend, rise from a chair, work at a desk or sleep comfortably. The exact cause and the best starting approach vary.
General educational information, not a diagnosis. Clinical review has not been recorded.
What happens during an assessment?
The clinician may ask which positions or activities change symptoms, assess back and hip movement and look for signs that require another type of medical evaluation.
What might a care plan include?
A plan may focus on maintaining appropriate activity, rebuilding tolerance for bending or lifting and progressing trunk or hip strength at a manageable pace.
Questions patients ask
Is lower back pain physiotherapy right for me?
There is no one treatment plan that suits everyone. The first step is to review the symptoms, medical history and functional goals, then decide whether physiotherapy, additional medical assessment or a different service is appropriate.
What should I bring to an assessment?
Please bring relevant reports or imaging if you already have them, a current medication list when relevant and a brief description of what daily activities have become difficult. You do not need to obtain scans solely to book a first enquiry.
Safety and next steps
If there is fever, serious injury, unexplained weight loss, progressive weakness or new bladder or bowel problems, seek medical assessment promptly.
