People use the term muscle spasm to describe sudden tightening, cramping or painful guarding. Causes may range from activity-related symptoms to medical conditions.
General educational information, not a diagnosis. Clinical review has not been recorded.
What happens during an assessment?
The physiotherapist may ask about triggers, hydration or medication issues, related nerve symptoms, movement and recent injury.
What might a care plan include?
For appropriate musculoskeletal presentations, education, gentle activity, targeted exercises and a longer-term movement plan may be discussed.
Questions patients ask
Is muscle spasm physiotherapy right for me?
There is no one treatment plan that suits everyone. The first step is to review the symptoms, medical history and functional goals, then decide whether physiotherapy, additional medical assessment or a different service is appropriate.
What should I bring to an assessment?
Please bring relevant reports or imaging if you already have them, a current medication list when relevant and a brief description of what daily activities have become difficult. You do not need to obtain scans solely to book a first enquiry.
Safety and next steps
Unexplained repeated spasms, widespread weakness, fever or neurological changes warrant medical review.
