Pain in a joint can restrict work, walking, exercise or sleep. Different joints and diagnoses call for different assessments, so general advice may not be enough.
General educational information, not a diagnosis. Clinical review has not been recorded.
What happens during an assessment?
The physiotherapist may review injury history, swelling, range of movement, strength, instability and the activities affected.
What might a care plan include?
Depending on the findings, care may involve education, safe loading, strengthening and coordination with medical care if further investigation is appropriate.
Questions patients ask
Is joint pain physiotherapy right for me?
There is no one treatment plan that suits everyone. The first step is to review the symptoms, medical history and functional goals, then decide whether physiotherapy, additional medical assessment or a different service is appropriate.
What should I bring to an assessment?
Please bring relevant reports or imaging if you already have them, a current medication list when relevant and a brief description of what daily activities have become difficult. You do not need to obtain scans solely to book a first enquiry.
Safety and next steps
Marked redness, heat, fever, deformity or sudden inability to move a joint needs prompt medical attention.
