Heel pain may arise from plantar fascia irritation, tendon problems, nerve issues or other conditions. Where it hurts and when it happens help guide assessment.
General educational information, not a diagnosis. Clinical review has not been recorded.
What happens during an assessment?
The clinician may examine walking, footwear, ankle mobility, loading and whether symptoms are located under or behind the heel.
What might a care plan include?
A plan may include graded exercise, activity modification and footwear or self-management advice after the cause is considered.
Questions patients ask
Is heel pain physiotherapy right for me?
There is no one treatment plan that suits everyone. The first step is to review the symptoms, medical history and functional goals, then decide whether physiotherapy, additional medical assessment or a different service is appropriate.
What should I bring to an assessment?
Please bring relevant reports or imaging if you already have them, a current medication list when relevant and a brief description of what daily activities have become difficult. You do not need to obtain scans solely to book a first enquiry.
Safety and next steps
Persistent night pain, severe swelling, infection signs or symptoms following injury should be medically assessed.
